thinkJOY

At thinkJOY, our mission is to spread happiness and bring joy into the lives of senior citizens in Johnson County. We believe that every individual, regardless of age, deserves to experience moments of delight, connection, and fulfillment. Our various programs help us connect with seniors and make their dream day come true.

We strive to bring our community members more joy, more smiles and more happiness. That’s the legacy we look forward to leaving. We’ve been working on this project and have delivered joy-filled days, but our work is not done. It’s only the beginning.

We are chasing the opportunity to make a positive impact by creating meaningful moments today, the only day we know we have. Everyone deserves to define a great day for themselves. We will deliver a day by design to our participants, filled with meaning, memories, and of course, joy.

Why is Happiness Important?

Joyful moments aren’t just fun and games, they affect our body in material, quantifiable ways too. Chemicals are released in the brain when happy happens; and those chemicals boost the immune system, fight stress and pain, and even promote a healthier lifestyle.  These chemicals are sometimes referred to as the confidence molecules and they flow when you feel significant or important.

Research shows that even when the logic and memory begin to diminish or are depleted from the effects of aging and/or dementia on the brain, people still have the ability to feel emotions. This is thinkJOY’s goal: help make people feel seen, heard, significant and that they matter.

Lifting Up Our Community

thinkJOY isn’t JUST for individuals, it is built for strengthening our community. One solution thinkJOY considers is to uplift our community with “Moral Elevation”. That’s the warm, uplifting feeling that people experience when they see unexpected acts of human goodness, kindness, courage or compassion. When observing selfless behavior, people often report an increased sense of connection to humanity and a desire to emulate such actions.

Research suggests that moral elevation can lead to greater prosocial behavior and a stronger commitment to ethical values. So, with all that being said, let’s lift up our lonely, let’s lift up our treasured seniors, and let’s lift up our amazing community.
